Greyhound Angels recommends that you fill out an adoption application online prior to visiting the farm. However, even without a submitted application we welcome anyone the opportunity to visit the farm and see what the greyhound breed is all about. There is no appointment necessary during our business hours.
Once you have submitted your application, we will call you within 24 hours to confirm that we have received it. We will go over any questions we have for you and answer questions that you may have. We will then check your two personal references and your vet reference (if required) and call you with the result of your application. If approved, we will invite you out to the farm to meet all the greyhounds that fit your profile. You can walk them, give them treats, take them into the fun run and play with them. At some point, the perfect greyhound will choose you, and your heart will know that they are your forever friend.
Your new friend will then go to our vet to be spayed/neutered, administered applicable shots/vaccines, microchipped, and tested for Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia canis, Ehrlichia ewingi, Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Anaplasma platys. You will receive all of your greyhound's vet records at the time of their adoption, including any records we received from the track. Once your hound is back from the vet, we ensure that he/she is back to himself/herself before they go home.
Pick up day is a very exciting time for your family. Please ensure that all of the members of your household are in attendance. We will go over specific information for the greyhound who has chosen your family and then we will go over a packet of information regarding the breed. We also go over medical and behavioral information to help make your hound's transition as smooth as possible.
Our support does not stop there. We have a large community, our Village, who are a wealth of information and eager to assist anyone in need. We also stand behind our adopted greyhounds and are here to help.
We also have scheduled "play dates" the second Saturday and last Sunday of each month, weather permitting, to give you and your new friend a safe place to play.
The decision to adopt is a nerve-racking decision even for the most experienced adopters. Please know that our adoption process is pressure free, because we know that our hounds truly steal their adopter's hearts when the moment is right.
